Glucosamine Sulphate is the basic molecule of the joint structure. It contains an amino acid which is an essential component of the building block which gives structure to the bones, skin and hair. Glucosamine also stimulates the production of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans, two of the components of cartilage. The natural production of glucosamine fades with injury or aging. Supplementation with glucosamine can help replace the deficit and restore the correct glucosamine balance in the joint.
Chondroitin Sulphate is concentrated in joint cartilage and is necessary for cartilage metabolism, maintenance and regeneration. It is an essential component to ensure joint flexibility and resistance to compression. Chondroitin also helps control the deposition of calcium salt within the cartilage and helps maintain the elasticity of the joint vessel.
Methyl Sulfonylmethane (MSM) contains sulphur which can be used in the body to strengthen the connective tissue around the joint and cartilage. The building blocks of joint tissues are connected by di-sulphide bonds; MSM provides the sulphur to make these bonds and therefore is essential for joint strength and resilliance. MSM is also known to have an anti-inflammatory effect and to reduce pain caused by in inflammation.
Green Lipped Mussel is rich in glycosaminoglycans, the building blocks of connective tissue which also aid joint lubrication and its anti-concussive properties. It also contains omega fatty acids namely omega 3 and 6 which are useful anti-oxidant molecules and aid joint maintenance and repair. They are also known to possess soothing/ anti-inflammatory potential.
Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant, inhibiting harmful substances in the body. It aids the formation of collagen required to support cartilage and bones and contributes to the shock absorbing abilities of the joint. It also has a function in maintaining healthy synovial fluid which nourishes the joint and removes waste.
